Balanced Screen Use

Program

A solution for families with teens and young adults struggling with problematic gaming, social media, or general screen use when nothing else has worked.

This program is designed for teens and young adults who are struggling with problematic screen use—such as declining grades, emotional outbursts, boundary-breaking, poor sleep, and self-care—and for parents who feel exhausted and unable to manage all the problems.

The program helps find long-term solutions for screen-related problems by providing psychoeducation, tools for teens experiencing a balanced lifestyle, insights on building healthy screen use habits, ways to deepen connections and improve communication, and teaching parents practical, personalized strategies for their situation.

Whether it's gaming, social media, or any other type of screen use, teens gain understanding of their screen use motivations and strengthen protective factors, while parents receive guidance on using the same framework and a step-by-step plan to support balanced screen use at home.

Session one is with parents and teenager.

The family will learn about the specific types of screen use causing the most challenges and discuss current boundaries and expectations.

Jeremy will provide psychoeducation on the psychology of screen use and discuss what healthy screen use can look like.

The family will solidify goals that all can agree upon to help the teenager experience a balanced lifestyle.

The second session is with the teen only.

The teenager will go over two worksheets to help them find personalized ideas on what a balanced lifestyle with screens looks like.

They will learn about the needs being met through their screen use and find alternatives to address those needs.

The third session will be with parents only.

Parents will discuss insights from their teen's worksheets completed in session 2.

Parents will find specific expectations, boundaries, and consequences for their teens gaming and work through past parenting barriers.

The fourth session will be with parents and teenager.

The teenager will discuss what they will do to move towards balanced gaming. Parents will discuss what they learned about their teen's gaming and will discuss what expectations, boundaries, and consequences will look like around gaming.

The family will then have an open discussion to work through disagreements or potential issues with the plan.

This program is made for teens and parents who want to make changes but unsure how.
